The internal stakeholders meeting on Dairy and Dairy products Policy was held on 10th -11th November, 2020 at Reiz Continental Hotel, CBD Abuja. 30 participants were drawn from from Departments, Agencies and Parastatal within the Ministry. The objective of the stakeholders engagement was to develop a dairy and dairy products policy document that will regulate the local dairy industry for increased productivity, attract investment and encourage backward integration of all the key players in dairy industry.

The Acting Director, Department of Animal Husbandry Services, Mrs. Winnie Lai-Solarin in her opening remarks stated that the dairy industry is dynamic with an ever increasing demand for milk and milk products and it plays an important role in the agricultural and food economy of the nation. In addition, she professed the need for a clearly defined policy and sustainable transformation in the dairy sector and livelihoods of actors along the dairy value chain necessitated the drive to hold the stakeholders’ engagement.

It was agreed that outcome of the internal stakeholders’ engagement on dairy and dairy products policy should be presented to a wider stakeholders’ engagement for their inputs and buy – in. The wider stakeholders’ engagement is scheduled to hold soon.
