Workshop on Good Dairy Farming Practices held on 3rd – 4th May, 2019 in Gwandagaji, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State with 150 participants in attendance. As part of FMARD’s obligations to identify clusters/cooperatives and link dairy farmers to processors it became important to build the capacity of dairy farmers in modern dairy farming for increased milk production. The workshop provided pastoralists with an understanding of the modern dairy business model, its benefits and key drivers to enable them move from subsistence farming to small scale dairy farming as a business. It also discussed constraints and challenges farmers face with access to key productive inputs, production and integration into the formal sector. The workshop is expected to elicit feedback on challenges and the support required to unlock dairy farmers’ potential. The program would be replicated in other states soon.
